Dr. Shirish Shimpi
Dr. Shimpi received his B. Tech (Hons) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India. He earned his M.S. and Ph. D. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. He also has an MBA from the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University. Shirish joined Cummins Inc. directly after his Ph. D. and completed almost 42 years at Cummins Inc. During his tenure at Cummins, he conducted engine emissions certification testing for both on-highway and non-road heavy-duty diesel engines for many years, including compliance with requirements of non-US agencies.
Shirish became Director of Advanced Emissions Development (AED) in Product Compliance and Regulatory Affairs at Cummins Inc. and retired from that position in February 2020. The AED group was responsible for emissions measurement, testing and compliance to emissions regulations. In this capacity among others, he had a long working relationship with regulatory agencies in the US and abroad in improving emissions test procedures.
During this time, he worked with and became Chairman of the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association’s (EMA's) Emissions Measurement and Testing Committee (EMTC), which he led for 19 years. In November 2013 Shirish was awarded the J. Irwin Miller Award, which is one of the highest honors an employee can receive at Cummins Inc., for his work on emissions measurement technologies.
